Movie: Unknown
Starring: Liam Neeson, Diane Kruger, January Jones and Aiden Quinn
Opened Nationwide: February 18, 2011
Stars: 3 1/2
In this psychological thriller, Neeson stars as Dr. Martin Harris, a biologist in Berlin for a conference. While his wife is checking into their hotel after they arrive, he realizes that he has left his briefcase at the airport and goes back to locate it. On the way there, he is in an accident, where he receives head trauma and is in a coma for four days. When he awakes, his wife doesn't seem to know who he is, and there is another man claiming to be him. And so begins his attempt to prove who he is.
This was actually a really good flick. You are never quite sure what is going on, until the very end. The fact that it keeps you guessing up to the end, even though the doctor taking care of Martin in the Berlin hospital gives the biggest clue as to what is going on is fantastic. The things that I thought were going on were completely wrong, and it was pretty awesome to see how things actually came around and played out.
The only thing that really bothered me in the end was if the peoples behind the conspiracy were willing to create a secondary Martin Harris, why wouldn't they have created a secondary Liz Harris? Perhaps there was one, but because the story was about Martin, we never saw her, and she didn't have to come into play.
In all, I thought that it was a very good exercise in the idea of memories, and questioning what is really true (as well as, are we really ourselves if our memories are compromised).
This one is worth a check out, even if it's at full price.
