Movie: X-Men: First Class
Starring: James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, January Jones and Kevin Bacon.
Released Nationwide: June 3, 2011

This is a reboot of the X-Men movie series which takes place during the Cuban Missile Crisis of the late '60s. The first group of "X-Men" are enlisted to help Charles Xavier (Professor X) and Eric Lensherr (Magneto) stop a Russian ship from bringing missiles to Cuba and beginning World War III.

I'll admit to not reading the comics and only having a vague awareness of the comics, and this probably helped me out some when watching this film (since I'm sure things were changed around for the film, and this would have annoyed me to no end).

I did dig the throw back to the original X-Men film (with Eric in the concentration camp), though I was waiting for Charles to sneak that out of his brain, since I had seen him in place of Eric's mother in a preview. But I suppose that got cut for time, and I will just have to infer that it happened from the preview (and the fact that Charles was trying to talk Eric out of doing something stupid out of revenge because it would have meant his own death).

James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender had some really great chemistry in this, and seeing as how the two of them were supposed to be friends before they went their own ways, I think this was really helpful for the story. I also really dug the fact that at least a couple of times during the film, you see the two of them playing chess. I loved the fact that they were playing chess in the first film, because it seemed to me to say a whole lot about the nature of their relationship (they are two very powerful and intelligent leaders with very different ideas of how to lead their people into the future).

The film was fun to watch (as a film and as a game of "spot the star"), and is worth checking out.
